2POINT Direct USB for Windows Released

The 2POINT Direct system connects the 2POINT Bend Apparatus via a parallel printer port. Modern PCs now often do not have a parallel port. We have therefore developed a USB adapter that connects the 2POINT apparatus to the PC via a USB port instead of a printer port. The adapter uses a small microcontroller that is used for both the interfacing and the precision timing of the stepper motor in the 2POINT Bend Apparatus. As a result the motor can be run smoothly at high speed (2POINT Direct used the pseudo "real-time" capabilities of Windows which resulted in rough running of the motor at higher speeds).

2POINT Direct USB will be included with new purchases of the 2POINT Direct system, and it is a simple upgrade that can be purchased for existing systems.

TBM for Windows - New

A new version of the Trigger Box Monitor System has been developed. It replaces the previous TBM for DOS system. It runs under all versions of Windows from 98 onwards. It connects to the PC via a USB connection. All monitoring functions are performed by a microcontroller in the Trigger Box Monitor Controller that is external to the PC - the PC software monitors the microcontroller, downloading any events and analyzing them ready for presentation to the user. The TBM Controller is autonomous and continues to monitor fiber breaks even if the PC crashes or loses power. The functionality is similar TBM for DOS but is much easier to use and is compatible with modern PC's.

Current TBM for DOS can be simply updated by replacing a circuit board in the Trigger Box Monitor box. The system then connects to the PC via a USB cable instead of the 50-way ribbon cable. It does not use an internal ISA or PCI plug-in board for the PC and so is compatible with any PC with USB connectivity.

Data Analysis and Graphing Plugins for SigmaPlot - Version 2 Released

Version 2.00 of the Data Analysis and Graphing Plugins for SigmaPlot have been released soon which include the following enhancements:

Can now handle more data sets (up to 6 simultaneously in a dynamic or static fatigue plot).

Better compliance with standard test methods including FOTP-28, ITM-13, IEC 60793-1-33, ASTM C1239.

More analysis options including dropping the weakest measurement at each speed, grouping measurements with a similar (but not identical) speed.

Easier to use directly from the SigmaPlot menu bar.

Can now start with a blank worksheet - any missing information, such as symbols, colors, line types etc. are automatically placed in the worksheet if they are missing.

Automatic scaling of data - for example can accept strength in a variety of units (MPa, ksi etc.) and will automatically scale them to GPa - or if you do not like GPa, an arbitrary scale factor can be applied. The scale factor does not have to be the same for all measurements.

More graph versions - color, monochrome, extended axis ranges.

Extra wide version of the Automatic Fiber Loader

A new so-called "Extra wide" option, together with the Wide and Standard Automatic Fiber Loader options, extend the range of fiber diameters that can be automatically tested with the Twp-Point Bend system. The standard Automatic Fiber Loader was designed for fibers whose glass diameter is around 80 to 125 µm. The wide version can be used for glass diameters up to about 400 µm and the extra wide version up to about 600 µm and beyond. Both the wide and extra wide versions can still test thinner fibers as well as the thicker ones for which they are designed glass diameter More....
